Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain Veneers are famous for looking virtually identical to real teeth. Veneers cover a tooth like a false fingernail. They fit over a tooth’s whole front surface and shield aesthetic flaws with individual teeth, ranging from cracks and chips to unevenly shaped teeth and teeth that have become discoloured.
Dental veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells that are attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. These cosmetic solutions address various issues, including chips, fractures, discolouration, or teeth that are smaller than typical dimensions.
Typically crafted from porcelain or resin-composite substances, dental veneers are securely bonded to the teeth, ensuring durability and a natural look. While some individuals may opt for a single veneer to repair a damaged tooth, it is common for patients to receive a set of six to eight veneers to achieve a harmonious and balanced smile. The upper front eight teeth are the primary focus for veneer application, as they play a crucial role in the overall appearance of one’s smile.
What is the process?
Our team will initially undergo a smile design process with you, whereby we will understand exactly how you would like your smile to look, taking into consideration your facial features. Using a combination of digital scans, impressions, study models and smile computer technology, we will then show you how your smile will look. Only once you are 100% happy with how your smile will look will we then move on to the treatment phase.
During the treatment phase, the team will prepare your teeth by cleaning them, after which an etching gel is used to roughen the surface.
Prior to receiving your veneers, you will have an initial consultation with your dentist to explore the various options available and determine the number of veneers you wish to have applied. In certain situations, if your teeth are misaligned or irregularly shaped, orthodontic treatment such as braces may be necessary before the veneers can be installed.
During this preliminary appointment, your dentist will typically conduct X-rays to assess the overall health of your teeth. They will check for any indications of tooth decay, gum disease, or the potential need for root canal therapy. If any of these issues are present, you may not qualify for veneer placement.
At your subsequent visit, your dentist will prepare your teeth for the veneers by carefully removing approximately half a millimetre of enamel using a specialised grinding tool. This step is crucial for ensuring a proper fit. Following this, a mould or impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory, where your custom veneers will be fabricated.
